H1N1 Swine flu, a relatively mild global pandemic so far has not gone away.  It has marched on both in the United States as well as most countries of the world.  Deaths continue to occur in the United States throughout the summer which is considered unexpected.  It is quite likely that the flu will come back with a vengence as soon as the kids return to school.  Vaccines are being prepared and are expected to be available in the October time frame.  160 million doses are expected to be available.  There are over 300 million people in the US so almost 50% will go without.  The CDC has prioritize the population to receive the early distribution.  The young, the school age children, young adults, pregnant women and those who have compromised health conditions are all a priority.  The health elderly are not a priority as they have not contracted the virus is significant numbers.  They are being encouraged to get the seasonal flu shot.  We all need to be prepared.
