This is the first in a series of blogs about Emergency Preparedness and the preparation of the City of Weston Lakes for all potential emergencies that might be faced.  As the Emergency management Coordinator I will be addressing several subjects that might be of interest to many.  Some topics will include; Pandemic Influenza planning and preparing, obviously the Hurricane season, potential flooding and other all hazzard threats.

The Hurricane season is now officially upon us as of the first of June.  The projection is that three major hurricanes could hit the Gulf Coast this year.   The Mayor signed a proclamation designating the last week of May as hurricane preparedness week.   It is not too early to think about how to prepare for the worst.  All of us remember being thrown into the dark ages with the loss of electricity during "IKE" last year.  Fort Bend county has been designated a stay in place county in the case of an ordered evacuation from the Gulf Coast area.  Although there is no order to stay in place, it is encouraged by the State and County authorities to ensure there is enough space on the evacuation routes for those fleeing from areas in greater danger from wind, flood and storm surge.  If you are going to stay please plan now for food, back up electricity, supplies, and needed medications and medical services.  More on that in a later blog.  Also for those that stay we need your help in volunteering to assist in the mitigation, planning, protection, response, and recovery.  If you can commit please call the city offices at 281 533-0907 to volunteer.  We need everyone to help.
